What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?
Massive car wreck in 2011 (and subsequently received Acupuncture for pain) made me seriously consider returning to school (again) to obtain degrees in Acupuncture, and truly organic skincare in 2008 were loaded with waters and waxes that did nothing to help improve skin, so I formulated my own products while pregnant.
Describe the process of launching the business.
Only way to describe the process of launching both businesses – arduous and downright freaking painful. Returned to school full-time for years to become a Dr. of Acupuncture when my children were 3.5 and 2. What a struggle to study for exams, write papers, attend classes/clinics and pass national Board exams. Creating my skincare formulas from scratch and handing them out to brave souls for their feedback over years was a loooong process, but made them into the fabulous final products they are today.
Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?
I specialize in pain conditions and Cosmetic Acupuncture. Taking the time to listen to patients and customize treatments to give them their best results in the shortest amount of time has been key to attracting more patients. Even my pain patients purchase my skincare products. They’re displayed prominently where patients sign in.
How are you doing today and what does the future look like?
Doing great! Beyond busy and being active on social media helps.
Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?
You have to ignore the doubters and passive-aggressive haters in your life. Everyone has them no matter what you do in life or whatever chapter in life you’re in. The less you care, the better off you’ll be and the more confidence you’ll have to continue your journey in business. And in life.
What platform/tools do you use for your business?
Unpaid social media like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.
What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Mel Robbins, Eleanor Roosevelt, Gary Vaynerchuk
Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?
If you’re sure of your business and it makes you happy, let no one deter you. Some people wish they could do what you do or they wish to be you. Just keep moving forward.
Where can we go to learn more?
Online. Or your local library. It’s awesome and free.
