Exclusive stories of successful entrepreneurs

Brenda Ridgley Whole You Media

Who are you and what business did you start?

I am the founder of the new publishing company Whole You Media and the author of “Lady and the Tribe, How to Create Empowering Friendship Circles”

What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?

I’m a Colorado gal who spent a decade in corporate America as a human resources manager and then decades more as an entrepreneur with businesses ranging from brick-and-mortar retail to consulting and direct sales. Now as an author and speaker, I enjoy presenting transformational workshops on the power of connection and friendship.

Describe the process of launching the business.

I had an ah-ha moment during a coaching session with a mentor. Once career focused and driven to hit the top of any organization I deemed worthy, motherhood significantly shifted my priorities to focus on the family. Over a period of 15 years, I “let myself go”. I’m not talking about the typical weight gain and yoga pants seven days a week, although that happened too. Over those years I let go of my own preferences, activities and friendships and found myself with a very busy life, yet something was missing. As my kids were about to launch into their adult lives, I no longer knew who I was outside of my role as MOM. I discovered what was lost was deep, meaningful friendships. I feel my story is not unique. There is a silent epidemic happening across the globe that is loneliness. We are not lonely because we lack friends, we are lonely because those friendships lack the intimacy and depth that we long for as human beings. My journey back to wholeness and resilience is documented in my book Lady and the Tribe, How to Create Empowering Friendship Circles. I am on a mission to help women reconnect and deep dive into meaningful friendships that will enhance their lives.

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

My book was just recently published and now my focus is on marketing to reach the women that would benefit from this information. I am doing a blog tour and book blast, I share on my YouTube Channel as well as weekly podcast. I plan to visit women’s groups all over the world to share the message of connection for joy.

How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

Just three years ago, I was lost asking the Universe “what’s it all about…. what is my purpose” and now I am eager and excited for each day! The future looks bright as I strive to impact many women and help create 1000 new Lady Tribes in 2022.

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

Yes, I have learned to step out of my comfort zone and try new and even “crazy” things. This all started because when challenged, I agreed to compete in the Mrs. Colorado America pageant over a year ago. My immediate response was “no way” and now I am so grateful that I took the chance and put myself out there in what I called a “crazy” way, since I had never done anything remotely like that before. The outcome and experiences have been life-changing and priceless.

What platform/tools do you use for your business?

Social media, blogs, YouTube vlogs, podcasts, reviews and public speaking.

What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?

I am a student of the law of attraction and coached by My Word Publishing and Alycia Darby
