Who are you and what business did you start?
I’m Venessa Nickless and started the business Mind Body Clinical Hypnotherapy, a small business that helps you work with your mind to overcome Anxiety, Addictions and Weight Issues at the same time as building your confidence and self esteem.
What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?
I had worked in the fitness industry for years, so helping predominantly with weight loss and found that clients were not always keeping the weight off.
I knew it was their stress/ anxiety/lack of resilience etc that was the problem and so the mind was what I needed to work with.
I trained in Health Coaching and Hypnosis (Rapid Transformational Therapy & traditional Hypnosis) and found my true passion. I loved seeing my clients strengthen their mind and let go of out dated beliefs and limiting behaviours.
My business started just 2 days a week as my daughter was 18 months old, but since I have grown it to 4 days a week and as I expand I’m creating group programs and online summits to be able to reach more people and teach them how to get their minds working for them rather than against them.
Describe the process of launching the business.
I decided I wanted to do it – and did 🙂
Registered a business, designed a website, and put a Facebook post up on my local facebook page to offer 50% off the first session. I had about 10 clients respond and then refer more people to me. From there it grew.
Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?
I get a lot of referrals from clients that have seen me and then share their success with friends and family.
Often chatting to people at networking events, pilates studio (I teach pilates once a week) and even just when people ask what I do they become really interested and want to try it.
How are you doing today and what does the future look like?
We moved to The Sunshine Coast from Melbourne about 18month ago, so I had to start up from scratch and work on building my online clients as Covid hit too.
But now business is taking off. I’m looking at creating more online summits and building my online presence further so that I can employ someone to help as I’m getting busier and having more ideas of how to expand the business.
Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?
So much! Stay simple, until you’re ready to expand. Don’t be
What platform/tools do you use for your business?
Groove Funnels (just about to move from wordpress)
Audacity (for Hypnosis Recordings)
Blue Yeti Microphone
What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?
Love Yourself Like Your Life Depended On It – Kamal Ravikant
A book about money and energy that I can’t think of the name of, but I can let you know when I remember.
Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?
Do it and work out the rest as you go. Life’s too short to be unhappy in your job, or have that niggling feeling ‘if only I had’ also get a great coach who can help with what you need. E.g. if you need help with social, don’t get a coach who employs social media staff and so can’t really help.
