Justine Lightowler – Campsmart

What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?

I was on maternity leave from my job in Human Resources with my third child and looking at other career options as I had three different daycare drop offs in three different locations.

I wanted flexibility. At the same time I had purchased a second hand camper trailer and was researching products for it. The two things came together and I started selling camper trailer and caravan accessories.

one thing lead to another and I realised I would be too busy with my part time business by the time it came to return to my job. So I left my office job and campsmart was born.

Describe the process of launching the business.

It was a slow burn. I started small selling individual items online and then created my own website and when I got a bit larger opened my showroom. I started small and grew organically

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

We pride ourselves on great customer service and after purchase support. This has created a large ground swell of customer support and brand loyalty

How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

We are going well. We have created our own range of products and are looking forward to expanding our product range

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

Follow your passion, work with your strengths and go with your gut

What platform/tools do you use for your business?

Things we like to use – google adwords, facebook marketing and zen desk

Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?

To start! So many people spend so long thinking about whether its the right thing to do. If you want to do it you just need to start. There isn’t ever an ideal moment.
