Jessica Osborn, business coach for female professionals

Who are you and what business did you start?

My name is Jessica Osborn, and my business supports female professionals to build a scalable service-based business that supports the lifestyle they want to live.

What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?

I spent 20 years in corporate marketing, reaching executive level and have built many successful brands and businesses. After becoming a mum I discovered many doors were closed to me in the patriarchal corporate world and decided to turn the negative experience into a positive by finally following my dream of working for myself, to get more fulfilment, freedom and sense of achievement by helping others succeed in business.
I’ve successfully built two online businesses from home over the last 10 years, without incurring any debt, and use this experience to help others be more profitable for the time they put into their business, without sacrificing their family time, me time or free time.

Describe the process of launching the business.

I decided early on that to be successful as a coach, it was about building a strong personal brand, so I took my brand strategy experience and applied this to create a presence in the market. From building an audience and establishing my reputation, I started to offer coaching services and signed 5 clients in my first month.

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

I’ve designed my business around the exact clients I can provide most value for, and to work the way that aligns with my lifestyle preferences, which means scalable offerings that increase customer lifetime value so I don’t have to sacrifice my time to earn more. My marketing framework is designed to specifically attract those best-fit clients, so that I don’t need to go searching for them, and it works! They find me online, join my audience, and from there into my coaching programs.

How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

My business has grown each year, now the majority of my clients are supported through my scalable offering, my signature online program, Business JAM. I recently started a podcast to inspire and support more women in business, called She’s The Business. I plan to continue producing content, programs and tools to help others become more successful.

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

So many things! I’d say that two of the most helpful would be to firstly get very specific about your market niche and create a strong profile that connects you to it. There’s so many businesses out there, if you’re not clearly standing out as the right fit for who you’re wanting to work with, they’ll choose someone else. Secondly, don’t try to do everything you can, be strategic about your offering and how your services fit together, to earn more per client and reduce cost of sales.

What platform/tools do you use for your business?

Automation is very important to me so I select platforms that are easy to integrate and provide advanced data management, and great customer experience. I host my website and online programs on Kajabi, use Active Campaign for emails and GSuite for my business documents and storage. My other favourite time saving platforms include Calendly, Zoom, Asana and Planoly.

What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?

I regularly listen to Mind Your Business podcast, Online Marketing Made Easy, and Manifestation Babe. Books I’ve found valuable include Chillpreneur, Scaling Up, How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?

There’s never a right time, so just decide to do it and be ready to learn along the way. Nothing can prepare you for the reality, and there’s plenty of bad advice out there so choose your mentors wisely! Finally to believe in yourself and look within you for the answers instead of following what others tell you. Having a successful business is about creating your dream life, start with that in mind and design your business to deliver it so that you have fun along the way!
