Who are you and what business did you start?

38 year old, single (widowed) mama – hustling to make a better future for my 10-year-old daughter
started a Marketing and PR agency – Coban PR

What’s your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?

I started the business 8 years ago, after I finished my uni degree. It was something i loved doing, and wanted to pursue it

Describe the process of launching the business.

Got a degree, started the business, the started hustling – contacting friends, companies, messaging people on facebook, did an internship with a fashion designer, whatever had to be done.

Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?

Word of mouth based on my performance and results. Providing tailored, one on one service to all clients, everyone gets a custom solution, not just the same template.

How are you doing today and what does the future look like?

Growing steadily after Covid decimated our business, but our future is so bright. we pivoted to include complementary services and was the best thing we ever did.

Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?

Tenacity – never give up. And rainbows before storms, just when you think it’s all over, have faith and it will work out, just keep going.

What platform/tools do you use for your business?

Project management software, basics – Word, Excel, etc, Envato, Canva, Skype – so many!

What have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?

Other agencies and businesses in the same space, watching them grow and develop, and getting inspiration from their creativity.

Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?

Don’t stop. ever. Get a job to pay the bills, don’t stop working on your dream, it will happen – good things come to those who hustle, not those who sit on their butts waiting for things to happen.
