Cameras Roll on Kurty’s Cookies as Sky II Productions Films Austin’s Twin-Brother Cookie Business

Kurty’s Cookies, the Austin cookie business twin brothers Kurtis and Eric Brenner started in 2023, is the subject of a short-form documentary now in production. Filmmaker Shannon Yocum of Sky II Productions began shooting in September and plans to finish by the new year, with a screening in Austin in spring 2027.

The film traces the company from its first batches to the recognition it has picked up since, and on to what the brothers are planning next. They list Austin Monthly’s 2024 Cookie of the Year and Audience Favorite at the 2025 Kind Cookie Competition among the milestones the documentary covers.

Not a highlight reel

The film skips the polished look of the business. Filming follows the bro-founders through the parts of the job nobody posts: baking, selling at markets, buying ingredients, and the errors that never make it to camera. Yocum describes the goal as capturing the good, the bad and the ugly of getting a new business off the ground in Austin.

“I’m fascinated by how transparent Kurtis and Eric are about sharing their business mistakes alongside their edgy content,” Yocum says. “I gravitate toward relatable, amusing stories, so this documentary should be a fun ride.”

That transparency is why the film takes the shape it does. The brothers talk about what has gone wrong in the business as readily as what has worked, with the hope that other people starting a small business in Austin can use the information.

“Two bros, one mission: bring Austin the best damn cookies in the world,” says Eric Brenner, co-founder of Kurty’s Cookies.

The business on camera

Kurty’s Cookies began in February 2023 as something the brothers did outside their jobs, and grew into the thing they do. The company sells through farmers markets, subscription boxes and catering for offices and events in Austin.

The baking is from scratch and without preservatives, and the range includes gluten-free and vegan options.

Sky II Productions

Yocum founded Sky II Productions in Austin in 2023 and works in short-form documentary and short-film narratives.

Filming continues across Austin through the end of the year, following the brothers wherever the work happens on a given day. Release plans and screening details will follow in the new year.
